My added thoughts are included in <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">blue<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>An inability to discern spiritual matters (1 Cor 2:14)\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">The &#8220;natural man&#8221; would include non-believers, but also could include carnal believers.  We are told in  1 Corinthians 3:1-3 and Romans 8:1-7, that it is possible for the believer to operate in the realm of the &#8220;natural man&#8221; when he is not walking in the Spirit.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">The non-believer faces both inability and non-capacity for discerning spiritual matters.  I think the carnal believer has the ability and has the capacity, but chooses not to operate in either, by walking in the flesh rather than walking in the Spirit.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>An inability to receive any help from God (Psa 66:18; Isa 59:1-2)\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>It may be that the only prayer of a non-believer that is guaranteed to be heard is the prayer of repentance and belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>An inability to produce any true good in the eyes of the LORD (Rom 3:10-12)\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>I am reminded of the words of Christ that tell me what my personal efforts produce.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\">John 15:5 NKJV &#8211; &#8220;I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>An inability to please God (Rom 8:6-8)\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300\"><strong>Colossians  1:10 NKJV &#8211; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him,  being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of  God;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. David Hocking in his study on Ephesians 2, indicated the following four characteristics of spiritual death (Ephesians 2:1).
